The farming video we watched in class this week definitely opened my eyes up to how the lifestyle of farming is. I loved all of the stories of the farmers and how a lot of them were maybe the 2nd or even 5th generation farmers. This reminded me of my father and the way he created his own business but not with hopes to pass it down to my sister, myself and my brother.
My dad graduated high school in 1984 and after that he never went to college. All he had was a pickup truck and he would go around siding houses and making cabinets for people's kitchen in the basement of my grandparents house. He eventually bought a store and started Cape and Island Kitchens all on his own. There was him and his secretary… who was my aunt. Now 30 years or so later he has five buildings for Cape and Island kitchens in Bourne, MA and Hyannis. He has expanded Cape and Island Kitchens into a full house remodel or build, you name it my dad will do it for you. He has over 100 employees and thousands of jobs going on at once.

The one thing my dad always stressed for us was not to feel pressured into taking over his company when he is ready to retire. Having him always remind us that it is okay if we don't want to be a remodeler or a kitchen salesman, I feel like that helped my siblings and I follow our dreams. For him, He loves watching us follow our dreams because he followed his.
