The Importance Of Water
In today’s world we take many of our basic necessities for granted. Things like electricity, clothing, and running water are sometimes left unappreciated. Many places on Earth do not have running water, or most of their water is dried up. For example, it only took a few decades for the Aral Sea to dry up in Uzbekistan, and kids have not been able to see water where it once was. This is not only devastating to us humans, but also to animals because many animals also depend heavily on water and without it they end up extinct. Another example that may hit closer to home for some people is the Colorado River. About 90% of the water from the Colorado River is used up by the time it gets to New Mexico, and 70% of that is due to agriculture. At one point the river did not even make it to the ocean, but now it does because of laws put in place to open up the dams.

After learning, and seeing how the Colorado River just ended I have become a lot more conscious of how much water I use.  I never realized how much water one person used on a daily basis. I am trying to take shorter showers, and I now shut the water off when I brush my teeth. Also, more should be done to somehow give running water to the places that don’t have it, because no one should have to live without such a basic thing that we take advantage of.

  1. Hello,
I like how you changed some aspects in your life after realizing the importance of this issue. Education in climate change and its importance is one of the first and most important steps to combatting it.
