Is Cancer Inevitable?

In class when we researched about cancer, the results were pretty scary. I knew that the cancer rates had to of risen since the 1950’s, but I still was in shock when I learned how much they have risen. Since the 1950’s the number of people diagnosed with cancer has risen by forty eight percent. Luckily, we have also developed better treatment for cancer so the number of deaths each year by cancer hasn’t risen as dramatically. This does not make it any less of a problem though since cancer is such a difficult diagnosis and the treatment for it is ridiculously expensive. It was also frightening to learn which cancers are caused by environmental factors because it was basically every single type of cancer. Many of the environmental factors that can cause cancer are impossible to avoid as well, so it explains why the cancer rates have risen so much.

  1. It is indeed very scary to think about how common cancers are today and how easy it is to get one. There are things that can be attributed to causing cancer everywhere. Also, most everyone knows someone who did or still does have cancer. Just goes to show how common it really is.
