Something that stood out to me this week was our talk about soil. Many people don’t think about the wellbeing and nature of soil because it’s the dirt under our feet and is usually associated with unhealthy bacteria no one wants. Soil is what grows our food and allows for the beauty of nature. In the video we watched it talked about the use of human waste in our soil which sounded gross but is a solution that can easily be obtained without money issues , travel or approval. It is a natural process that everyone is already adapted to and could be put to good use.
The misconception is understandable when I hear dirty the first thing that comes to my mind is “ringworm” because grown up I was taught dirt was nasty and to stay out of it. We don’t take the time to think about what that “dirt” gives us and how we would survive without it. Everything on earth was placed here for a reason and soil has its main purpose to feed and nature us. If we don’t take care of the soil it won’t take care of us. Humans have become all about supply and demand which is dangerous for our food supply. We need to improve our relationship with the environment before it’s to late.
