This week what caught my attention most was talking about the soil issue. It is something that lots of people do not think about and is one of the most important things when it comes to planting. In my sustainability class that I took last semester we talked about soil and even went to the garden on campus. The soil at the garden had no chemicals or anything added to it. We even learned that most of the dead leafs or plants that fall into the garden are not removed because it is good for the plants.
In that class we also talked about composting which was mentioned a lot in the film. There are different ways to compuse and different ways to make soil as health as it should. We saw several different farms in the film and everyone had a different method to help the soil. We should be doing things like this instead of using chemicals to make them grow faster. I also thought about something that was brought up before how we do to much sometimes and that’s true we shouldn't add chemical we should let plants grow freely.
The chemicals that we are adding to the soil kills it. It also is not good for us humans at all. Just because they make more of what they are growing does not mean that we should use it. The soil we have now has lost a lot of it nuntion that made the food healthy for us. I was kind of surprised that it takes eight oranges to have the same about of nutritions one orange when my grandparents were young. Things like that is way there should be a change and we should not add chemicals to the soil.
