Monsanto Strawberries
Growing up I had no idea where all my food came from. For all I knew it was just grown behind the grocery store. As I grew older I realized where food came from and it is a scary thought. I have always wanted to grow my own garden but I know it would not be an easy task and it would take a lot of time and effort.
This week when researching Monsanto it turned my previous fear into terror. Monsanto likes to consider themselves “A Modern Agriculture Company”. There are many loopholes within the food corporation and the company Monsanto and the companies owners are part of the loopholes. Monsanto produces genetically modified seeds to provide food that is “perfect”. Picture the perfect strawberry,  Monsanto created it. The Monsanto company manufactured the chemicals for the Vietnam War, chemicals that killed people.. a lot of people. But don't worry!! Now they make chemicals for your food to grow faster and more efficiently and prettier! Food that you eat every single day! Lovely.
Tonight I came home from work and took out the strawberries from the fridge and decided to make some chocolate covered strawberries. As I was picking through which strawberries I wanted to use I was reminded of researching Monsanto in class. Looking at these “perfect” strawberries I was thinking to myself what am I actually about to eat? That is a terrifying question.

As a generation I believe that we have a lot to fix and alter on Earth. The world is a big, sometimes scary place and for me to be staring at strawberries on my kitchen counter and thinking “What am I about to actually eat...?” that is not okay. There are lots of stomachs to fill so maybe this is the best way to create food for everyone. I feel as though as a child you should take a class maybe in elementary school and or middle school to learn about gardening and start incorporating it into the curriculum.
