“Braiding Sweetgrass: The Gift Of Strawberries”
In Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, the chapter called “The Gift of Strawberries” was one that stood out to me the most due to this one quote in particular, “A gift comes to you through no action of your own, free, having moved toward you without your beckoning.” (Kimmerer,23). This quote is basically saying that blessings happen to you without right under your nose and sometimes you don't have to lift a finger. There has been times, for example, that i couldn’t do a project or homework in a class in high school and the teacher would either not ask for it or would be absent allowing me to not worry about it.  It was also a reality check as I knew that these things don't happen consecutively so next time i’d have to make sure i'm on my game.
To connect with the strawberry portion, the authors’ connection to strawberries was quite different, the fact that the author referred to the strawberries as gifts and she felt almost spiritually connected to them as she seen them grow from the green leaves to the vibrant red strawberries that she believed that she was raised by them at one point.

To conclude, the overall message of the chapter was that you can relate to nature. One person could enjoy taking walks just to feel the breeze and smell the fresh air, while another would go outside to see the animals and wildlife. Overall, people can connect to nature in different ways compared to one another.

  2. Hello Ketner!
I really enjoyed reading your blog post and agree with the overall message of, "The Gift of Strawberries", was how people connect with nature, in many different ways. For example I connect with nature because whenever I need to cool down, or get lost in my own thoughts, I often take a walk in the woods. Seeing the trees and listening to the sounds of the birds, and the squirrels rustling in the leaves allows my mind to be at ease. It allows me to rest and breathe.
I liked how you connected a quote from the story with a life experience from back when you were in high school. I was also able to make personal connections, and reading the story reminded me of certain childhood experiences.
