Planting Roots

At the end of class on Thursday, some of us talked about a place that means a lot to us. When I think of a meaningful place, it has to be somewhere that people automatically associate with you. It has to be a place that you can go to and forget the world for a little while. My "meaningful place" isn't one specific place. In fact, I'm lucky enough that there could be one of them in every town that I go to. The softball field is my place to go to when I need a break. I know, it's a pretty public place. It doesn't feel that way to me. When I'm on the field, everything else disappears. My problems go away and its been that way since I was really little. I planted my roots from the second I first set foot on a field.
The peacefulness of the field, even during a very dire moment in a game, brings me back to earth. I feel at peace when the ball is in my hand. When I've had a bad day and I just want an escape, I immediately want to go throw the ball around with my teammates. I find myself going to softball fields more often now that I'm in college. No matter what workload I have waiting for me at home, I just forget it all and just go clear my head.

Some of us are lucky to have a place that we can go and just take a break from life, even if it's as small as your bedroom. I know that personally, I'm a completely different person based on the fact that I could always escape when I was on a softball field. I hope that everyone has somewhere they can go when it gets to be too much. The world can get too overwhelming for so many people that we all need a break.

  1. This post gave me a happy feeling, and reminded me of how I feel when it comes to the beach. It's awesome having a favorite place that can be in more than one place, if that makes sense.

  2. The reason that you love playing softball and being on the field is the same reason I am into art. I love to take pictures, paint, and draw because in the moment it is the only thing I am thinking of. It is the best way to distract myself from anything I don’t want to think about. And I’m sure it is one of the greatest feelings of accomplishment when you know you played really well during a game, and I feel accomplished after I create art that I am proud of.
