Money Vs Health

When I was little I used to drink soda everyday and I would eat junk food. Honestly, I had a bad eating habit, the worst part of all of this is because I don't drink milk. I remember that my mother used to get mad at me because I would not drink milk, however, soda was just like water for me. I was not aware that I had a bad eating habit. 3 years ago when I was in Cape Verde, I would eat junk food often, however when I arrived in the United States I gained weight  and I believed that is because the junk food industry denominates this country. When we walk into a supermarket, some of us expect to see a lot of green stuff( fruits or vegetables) and to fill our trolleys with nutritious food, but nowadays when we go into a store we will find the majority of food that contains high fructose corn syrup. Everything has been processed. I was shocked when I saw the documentary Food Inc because it demonstrates clearly how companies grow and treat our food. This documentary shows that the meat packing companies got bigger, and in order to serve the needs, the fast food industry forgot about our health and also about the future consequences of this issue. The companies should not have the right to decide what information to give the consumers because some of these food has genetically modified ingredients. Another evidence from this documentary is that a farmer tested his meat and he found 133 bacteria on the meat, however after testing the meat of big companies and markets, they found 3600 bacteria in the meat. After watching this documentary I want my community to be aware of this issue, as well it can cause death because of food poisoning  We all have the right to know because we might be allergic to a certain type of ingredient, however, we tend to eat it because we don’t know what is in it. The documentary Food Inc is an eye-opening about the food industry in America.

  1. It's honestly terrifying to think that so many of us have no idea what goes into our food. I definitely think that more education should be put out in regard to what's in what we're eating!
