american food

In the omnivore's dilemma, Pollan talks about the process of cows and how the get fatten up for meat slaughter. How they are on a corn based diet in order to fatten them up faster instead of the grass diet, which would take time for the cows to get fat. This is just one example of how the american society is always in a rush. We are in such a demand of meat that we do not like the wait for the grass fed cows because it’s too long and costs more money. America runs on processed foods because it's cheap and available. With having these cheat processed foods, many people in america do not think twice about what they are buying and how much. Unlike a lot of countries where they grow a lot of their own food or buy things but it's also not so easily available to them. It sad to think about how we have so many options available to us but we do not appreciate it. A lot of people buy too much food and end end up eating it. It is so common for people to say that there is nothing to eat in their house but in reality their fridge and cabinets were full of food.   “Americans throw away approximately $165 billion worth of food each year, and for the average American family, that can be up to $2,200 per household, according to a recent study by the Natural Resources Defense Council”.  These statistics are mind blowing, to think about how much food this is and how there is so many people in the world who barely have anything to feed their families.
“Americans Waste $2,200 Worth of This Every Year ...” CNBC, CNBC, 17 July 2015, www.cnbc.com/2015/04/22/americas-165-billion-food-waste-problem.html.
