Going around the classroom on Tuesday as we discussed our favorite places and what they meant to us, I realized a common theme. In most classes we rarely have time to pause and talk about ourselves to our classmates or teachers, let alone the whole entire class. By going around and sharing a place that means a lot to us and our essays we write in general, brings us closer together. It makes you realize how all of us in that class and humans all in all at the end of the day our so similar. Just in that small room is a mix of completely different people. We all grew up in different towns and families, creating us into the people we are today. But, when you take the time to share simple stories like the other day, you notice things.
What I noticed was most of the stories had the same message. At first it started off by talking about the place physically, but what truly made it their favorite place was the non tangible things. It was the memories created at that certain place with family and friends. That is something everyone can relate to. I have enjoyed being a part of this class because we talk about a wide range of subjects that matter. We read more scientific things which our informative of information we should know of as citizens of a society, then have the power to use those righting techniques and information and relate it back to our own lives. By taking class time to share these stories with everyone, it brings us closer and reminds us of what is truly important in life, family and friends, and the memories we have created with them.
I definitely agree that, through sharing our experiences and different narratives, it gives us a far better sense of being. It's something that we rarely get in classes, but it really helps with understanding the concepts of connection to places and food, since we all share such similar or relatable experiences.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I feel like the way the class is set up, with being discussion based, it is cool to see all the different stories of everyone but they all seem to connect to a central theme.
ReplyDeleteI also love being able to hear and learn more about the people in my classes. There is so much to learn from the people that sit around you everyday.
