Windigoo

In the chapter of “Windigo” written by Robin Kimmerer, tells a story of a monster, the Windigo. Windigos are humans, more particularly the dark sides of us humans, if we let it out.The Windigo could be seen as good or bad but still has a toxic impact on the earth. The Windigo is basically an alisis to describe greed and selflessness that you often see from humans. For example, drugs, alcohol, and even internet usage that includes social media. At first it seems harmless, then as you continue to feed it, that's when it becomes monstrous. “The more the Windigo eats, the more ravenous it becomes, it a Windigo, when greed takes over that when it becomes out of one's “shrieks with craving.” (Kimmerer 317) Every Addiction starts off as a once doing then becomes something that someone starts craving. People don't often think of social media as an addiction, but if you pay close attention you'll see that there are a lot of infectious Windigos bites. For example, when challenges are formed on the internet, whether it's good or bad. People participating in those challenges do it  to gain likes, comments, shares, and even a few laughs. It ultimately brings up ones ego. Same goes for drugs and alcohol, even though the reason behind a drug and alcohol use, may be different from a social media craving. The same high that people get from these behaviors, is what causes these Windigos. People start to crave more, then feed it more until they are satisfied then become hungry again. Humans nowadays find different routes into doing things and boosting their self esteem. It's much easier to obtain attention from luxury houses, expensive jewelry, designer clothing and nice cars, whereas gaining attention from helping starving childrens, disabled people or even finding resources to save the bees and stop global warming. Enough credit isn't given when doing things that benefits our people and earth, and often is looked passed or given little attention. Animals only become a priority or even relevant to us when they are on the endangered list or extinct. Global Warming only became important when houses and communities were being destroyed by hurricanes, tornadoes, and extreme weather differences, which was interfering with humans daily activities. If global warming, and the endangered species list increasing had no effects on humans daily living then most likely nobody would pay it any mind, but since it does that's when humans chose to take action, just because it's now coming in between their materialistic things and greed. We could chose to turn Windigo into a positive thing, if we really were opt to do so. Anything you continuously feed, others will want to eat. If we all did something that had a positive impactful then others would want to help make a cause, even good things could be infectious.
