Human Robots

After watching the documentary on Rachel Carson and how critical she was to pointing out how hazardous the daily utensils humans use can be, I was able to make a similar connection. As humans, we are not able to see certain things that companies do, due to the fact that society has normalized it. For example, we just brush our teeth every morning and evening without questioning what is inside of the tube. Or even with soap and Clorox wipes, we just take them out of the container and the only thing we seem to notice is how good they smell without checking the label to see if it is actually harmful to be touching with bare skin.

            Society has normalized so many things beside gender norms that one might not notice it until they question every single thing they might do. Before chemicals used to have great warning signs such as a skull right in the middle of the label but now people have to use magnifying glasses to see if something is dangerous. The companies make labels smaller now and people use more products that they would not have used back in the 80’s due to the hiding of major harmful chemicals or poisons. And the funny thing is that these companies such as Johnson & Johnson are making big bucks by feeding us and letting us use products that are poisonous, so in a minor way they are killing us. The more of a product we purchase, the more poison we intake and the more money they make. Not to mention, that some of the chemicals in these products could be addictive and we wouldn’t even know since they come in small proportions but we still buy it.

            The world is slowly becoming toxic due to the greed of big companies and it is not okay because we are like their robots that will purchase anything due to the fact that it has been normalized and drilled into our brains to spend our hard earned money on useless things that could potentially kill us. America is a greedy country who has too much pride in being the best and richest. I am convinced that the government will do anything in their power to control us and it is already occurring.
