Something that stood out to me this week was the video we watched called Roadkill. It was about people in virginia literally ate any animals you would see on the side of the road such as squirrel, raccoon and deer. They would have a contest on the best dish that was cooked at an annual event. Watching them prepare and eat the food was the most disgusting thing to me. This video tied into our course because it spoke to the availability of natural unprocessed food and Survival. The people of virgin love and enjoy the idea of being able to prepare and eat the food that they hunted and killed. One of the youngest hunters was about 12 years old and had his first killed at the age of 4, this is not just something they do it's a lifestyle.
I wouldn't personally engage in this type of lifestyle but at the same time that puts me at a disadvantage when it comes to survival. If there was ever a major food crisis or near world ending the people of virginia and anyone else who lives this lifestyle would be able to survive. They provide their own food supply vise someone like me who depends on the supermarkets. They are hunters and gatherers just how people were back in the days and that how they served. We believe the foods we eat are healthy and natural just because its stated in bold on the packaging but in reality it's just processed and injected with “natural ingredients”. How can a food be more natural then being killed in its natural habitat and cleaned and cooked by its hunter. This video made me rethink our food supply and what we are actually putting into our body.
