In this week’s reading of One Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka,  the chapter Commercial Agriculture Will Fail stuck out to me. When he says “But if you decide to try to make money instead, you get on board the profit wagon, and it runs away with you,” I can see both perspectives of it. With growing food, you will have lots of resources and knowledge but on the other hand you’re putting in a lot of work and time for no profit which is not common now a days. It is clear that Fukuoka’s stance on how commercial agriculture is to try and get people to farm their own fruits and vegetables. I do agree with him though when he says the vegetables contain chemicals from water. My mother always tries to buy the most fresh fruit or go to a farmers market because she’s concerned on what’s being put on them. Its concerning that something as healthy as fruits and vegetables can be involved with a harsh chemical bit that is the reality of commercial agriculture. Overall, I understand Fukuoka’s view but it is challenging to take on the responsibility of being a farmer.

  1. I like the connection you made about the fruits and I too try to buy fruits and vegetables from the local farms and farmers market, mainly because of the quality and the lack of chemicals that may have been used in commercially farmed goods
