Family Matters

On Tuesday, we discussed the narrative of a place that was assigned. Even though it was a paper that I had to do, it really helped me otherwise define the fact that family is a major value in my life. I chose to write about my house in New Hampshire that I share with other family members besides my immediate family. I come from a large extended family who I like to think are very close-knit due to our New Hampshire house. We spend the majority of our summer vacations there and some winter vacations growing up. We bonded over the time spent together doing fun outdoorsy activities. Spending all of this time together and reflecting on it in my narrative helped me see that family means more to me than I thought. The memories with family formed in New Hampshire will last a lifetime and I am so thankful I was able to have this second house where I could spend time and bond with my extended family.
When sharing our narratives in class, I came to realize that there was a common theme of family in many other student's narratives as well. Whether they talked about being at a vacation house, a beach, a certain place in someone's town, or simply just a relative's house, a lot of my classmates discussed a place of importance that had to do with family. It made me understand that family is a huge part in everyone's lives and we should never take that for granted.

  1. I definitely agree that family makes a huge impact in people's lives, be it a connection to nature, food, or a place! It's really interesting to see how all of these concepts can be connected to family in tons of different ways!

  2. Just as you said many of us have a specific place where our family comes together to bond and do activities. Your New Hampshire home sounds like a lot of fun. Although I don't have a home in New Hampshire I love to go camping with my family and we do the same activities. It definitely brings us together.

  3. I agree and wrote something similar to this in my post. Family is what makes us who we are, and has a huge impact in all of our lives. It is defiantly no coincidence the connection between that aspect and someone's favorite place. There is nothing better than being with your family wether it is your blood relatives or people who have grown into your family.

  4. When you shared your narrative in class it reminded me a lot of my family house in Maine. I have shared a lot of great memories with my family there as well. I am really glad that most of us in class are able to have places that bring our families together, but I am also aware that many people do not have these close relationships with their families, which makes me that much more thankful for what I do have.

  5. New Hampshire is also a place I hold close to my heart when it comes to my family. When I was younger my family and my aunts and uncles and cousins would all take trips up to New Hampshire, as we grew we didn't all meet up as much or go during the same times because of conflicting schedules. My family and I still go each year though and have the best time. I do miss when my entire family would get together but I am grateful for all the memories that I am able to look back on.
