During class when we listened to
the sounds of birds chirping and were asked what came to mind, I said that it
made me think of the sun rising and the start of a new day. When people started
to use pesticides such as DDT heavily, the birds were affected. The pesticides
were not only killing the bugs; it was also causing the birds to get sick and
die. It wasn’t until people realized that the pesticides were killing things
other than the bugs that they started to care. Silent Spring helped to inform people about the unforgiving effects
of the pesticides and of the fact that the pesticides were harmful to humans. The pesticides were also being used in excessive amounts. In
the documentary we watched in class it said that the amount of pesticide that
was used in California could’ve provided a lethal dose for five to ten times
the world population. It doesn't even make sense to me why that much pesticide would even needed to be used. I think people sometimes forget that we share the Earth with millions of other species and we actually rely on these species for our own survival. We should all be more conscious of how our actions affect the world around us.
I agree. They were using the pesticides a lot more than they really needed to. It's so sad that innocent animals needed to start dying for people to actually think about what they were spraying into the atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with your post. Animals got their lives taken away because of something people didn't think about until they started noticing how bad It was effecting the earth
