Food Industry

The food industry and the marketing has been a nonstop process, since the 1970s the food industry has evolved enormously, utilizing science and technology to make food production bigger, saltier, sweeter, faster, and cheaper. This type of industry is extremely harmful to humans and especially children. According to Michael Pollen in his book called The Omnivore's Dilemma, “Obesity today is officially an epidemic, it is arguably the most pressing public health problem we face, costing the healthcare system an estimated $90 billion a year. Three of every five Americans are overweight and  one of every five is obese…”
The companies don’t want their story to be told, they are hiding all the ingredients that they use in order to make a certain food. It might be because of the fact that these companies are adding some artificial products to our meat, chicken, beverages and even water, and everything we eat is somehow derived from corn. According to the documentary Food Inc, a family loses their son because of food poisoning. Imagine that you are a mom and you had been through a lot of struggle in order to raise and educated your child, but unfortunately, the food that you brought to your child was infected by E.coli. After reading these two texts I noticed that humans are disrupting the environment by using chemicals that are harmful to all of us.Consuming an excessive amount of cornstarch leads to health problems including obesity, high blood pressure, and cancer. After the industrial revolution, companies started to produce more products, and the situation started to change creating cancer producing substances called carcinogens. She emphasizes the idea that all citizens need to unite in order to prevent another environmental disaster.
