Waste not Want not!

         In Silko's personal narrative, " Interior and Exterior Landscapes: The Pueblo Migration Stories", she discusses the relationship that she and the Pueblo people had with nature. The Pueblo people felt that everything in nature was sacred and that they should be extremely grateful for everything they have been given. That concept seems to have dissapeared in modern society as people do not care what they are given and only want the next best thing or what everyone else has. For example, society seems to put a big importance on everyone having the newest i phone and if you don't have it then you're way behind. The Pueblo people on the other hand were extremely grateful for what they had been given and wouldn't let anything go to waste. 

          For me personally the most compelling thing about Silko's narrative was how the Pueblo people didn't waste anything. When they hunted and killed deer they would use every part of the deer as to not offend the deer gods who supplied them with this bounty. Therefore, they were never longing for more because they always had what they needed and were content with it. However, our society does an awful lot of wasting. Our supply of fossil fuels is running extremely low yet we don't really seek any other source of energy. We continue to use up resources and aren't really grateful for them. In terms of food, we waste tons and tons of food. Every year, on average, each person in the United States wastes about one million pounds of material. We are never really thankful for the food that is on our table we just eat until we are full and then throw away the rest, wasting perfectly good food that people in struggling countries would be happy to enjoy.
