The Dakota Access Pipeline

The Dakota Access Pipeline video really caught my attention. I was surprised how aggressive the law enforcement was towards the people who were defending their land. I do see that the protesters were a little less than peaceful during the protest, but I am not sure why military vehicles is necessary. The people have the right to stand up for what they believe in and it is disgraceful to see how they are treated. There was a large amount of disrespect given toward the people defending their land. The one woman who said that her son was buried near where they planned on digging has the right to defend where her son is buried. Another woman said that the pipeline will only help one group of people, and those are the oil companies. It is not right that some humans value a dollar over a human. I am sure these protests will continue even after this pipeline is in the ground and running and I think their should be. Maybe this time someone who has authority will listen.

  1. I agree with you on how aggressive the government and the people of Standing Rock are acting. I completely understand the fact that both sides are upset and want their stories to be heard but violence is never the way anyone should act. Both sides need to take a better look at themselves and their viewpoints before they go after the other side. I understand protecting ones viewpoints but the people of Standing Rock and the government need to do so respectively and appropriately, in order for the other side to see and understand the other view.

  2. Ben, this video also caught my attention, I was completely blow away with how the law enforcement treated the people defending the land. I agree that the people have a right to stand up for not only what they believe in but also what they own. I think it is horrible to see the woman having to fight so they will not dig up where her son is buried. It is not right that these oil companies are just getting richer, and they do not care how they treat the people. I hope that someone who has authority will listen to what the people want.

  3. I agree, the way the authorities and workers handled the situation was poor and unruly. The protesters are exercising a right they have and the fact that they are met with military force for trying to protect there land is terrible. I also hope that protesting continues, but I also hope there is less need for violence.

  4. I agree with you and how you said that she had the right to protect where her son is buried because that is sacred and private grounds. The authorities need to listen to the people talk because it isn't right that their lands are getting taken away from them for something that doesn't even help them in any way.
