Standing Rock the resource

After watching the informational film on Standing Rock in class on Wednesday I felt like I had to help. I never realized how the people of Standing Rock really felt about the pipeline. They feel as if the government doesn't care about them as citizens and they are being pushed aside. The government doesn't regard there opinion on the matter. The line is being built around their ancestors graves and can pollute the water supply. I feel inspired to want to help. The oil companies have built enough pipelines throughout the the United States in our time. I honestly appreciate there efforts more because they are fighting for what they believe not just because they are unhappy with the government. They had a false sense of security, the people thought they had one but the new president is going to push it through. Standing Rock is just important because of its resources, that's all the government wants oil for money. Once they have what they want and the money rolls in they will no longer care about it and even the media won't pay attention. Then when the pipeline leaks into the water supply nobody will be there to help. The only way to stop that from happening is to stop the pipeline from being turned on now before it is to late. The people with be the only suffering, the government won't show remorse and move on to its new cash cow.

  1. You mentioned that the "government doesn't care" which I don't think is 100% accurate. I believe that the people as individuals who work for the government care about the people of Standing Rock but they have to think about the bigger picture. Working for the government means you have to put your own beliefs aside (to a point) and think about what is the best for the country as a whole. I'm not saying that I agree with the governments decision, but sometimes what isn't the greatest plan for some people could help the population as a whole.

  2. I agree thoroughly. It is all about money for the government and everyone involved with the pipeline. In my post I said that they value a dollar over humans and it's sad. Something does need to happen before the water does become contaminated and the problems only persist on. Native Americans have been scrutinized for a large part of history, and it is about time it all comes to an end.

  3. I agree whole-heartedly with a large amount of this entry. The damage that this pipeline could potentially do is irreparable, but our government does not seem to care as long as they make money off of it. I like how you said that the government will no longer care about the negative effects of the pipeline once they receive the money it will make them. It is a shame that the government is ignoring their cry for help and hopefully no harm will come to their people.

  4. I also agree with your thoughts. The government is harming the people of standing rock and it needs to stop. The government does mainly care about the money and not peoples lives, beliefs and customs. The people of the area should be able to live the way their culture entitles them to, without harm from the government.

  5. I completely agree. And, I also appreciate the way that they are standing up for what they believe in because not everyone will do that. I also agree that the only way for this to get better if for it to never be turned on. The government only cares about money, not about the people.
