In
A Lost Woods by H.M. Tomlinson,
Tomlinson writes about how the petrol and car engine companies were affecting
the atmosphere by building roads on rural land. The author describes how
certain crops are not able to grow due to the fact that the gas fumes are
ruining the ecosystem and not only that but the fishes and other aquatic
animals are being affected since sometimes the petrol gets into the water and
disrupts the life under there. When this occurs the kingfishers aren’t able to
feed their young, so not only are humans losing money due to the lack of fish
dying but they are also losing food.
I
agree with Tomlinson that the use of petrol and the power of oil companies are running
down the world, slowly but surely. Humans use the transportation of cars, buses,
and trains each day so gas fumes are constantly being emitted into the air
which leads to pollution and many other issues. It is very clear that people do
not watch over the earth as much as they should because there are alternatives
to all of these issues but some are just lazy and ignorant. If we really wanted
to solve the issue of petrol and oil companies being dominant, we could easily
switch over to bikes and walking more to our locations. This solution would
allow the amount of gas polluting the air to decrease, to more vegetation growing,
and it could possibly solve obesity since people would be using their body to
get places.
I
also believe that it is time for citizens to stand up to these big companies to
regain what is ours since big oil companies often exploit the land we live on
until there’s nothing left for the citizens. Of course there are greater issues
in the world such as racism but at the same time our land is dying due to human’s
selfish needs, but if we can protest for racism and receive some change since
the 1800’s, then we can make the same impact for our land and world.
I do agree on the thought of changing how we transport ourselves from place to place in life. Our current use of vehicles is one of the prime outcome of pollution in the air. However I strongly feel as though that aspect in life isn't going to change. Just look at the society we live in and what they think is important, the fancy cars and the latest clothes that come from factories. There are factories all around the world that end up having the harsh black gas seep into the sky. We need more people like you to stand up to these companies.I also really liked how you pointed out exercising as one of the alternatives for transportation. Biking and walking is what this generation needs especially being obese. If the world was to take your advice everyone would be solving two problems at once! Our health and taking care of planet earth.
