Different Opinions

            

            When talking about the Standing Rock Reservation it spiked my interest. It got me thinking about both sides of the issue. The government has valid points and so do all the tribes of Standing Rock. Has a country we can seriously use the extra oil source to be able to support ourselves in a better way than we are at this very moment. But the Native Americans also have a very valid point in wanting to save their sacred land.

            In class when people kept stating it was the ‘government’ against the Native Americans, its not that I don’t agree with that statement. It is more the fact that the people who make up the government have different back rounds. If none of them ground up on sacred Indian land than how are they expected to fully understand why the Native Americans are so protective over their land. It is just like growing up with different religions and up bringing’s. If you didn’t grow up thinking that land and water was something sacred you will have different view points about it, and potentially destroying it. They think its just land and water not that it has any other deeper meaning than that. The government and the people who run it see the bigger picture, they want to protect our countries future not just a piece of land.

            But the Native Americans see the land and water as vital life sources that they need to keep themselves alive. The oil pipe line that goes though their sacred land is seriously a big problem for the Native American people. Their biggest issue besides that it goes through their land is the fact that oil will be running though it. And when that pipe line gets worn down or something breaks the Native Americans are going to be the ones who will suffer directly from it contaminating their water. Which should be a major concern for the government, but they feel like they can keep the pipe line in check and 100% maintained in order for the tribes to not have a problem with the oil.

            Both sides of this huge debate need to really look into the other sides opinion and reasons for why they are either pushing for the oil to go through the pipe or pushing for the pipe line needs to get taken down.
